This page is to provide addition details on using Hosted Chef to setup a user and organization


You should already have Ruby installed on your system.
If you don't, return to the Fast Start Guide and complete that preceding step prior to returning here.



Signup and Account Validation

Head over to the Hosted Chef Sign Up page to create your account. You will get an email validation shortly after you sign up.
After you validate your email address with Hosted Chef, you need to do the following:

  • Download your User Key, which you will use to interact with Hosted Chef directly.
  • Create an organization on Hosted Chef
  • Download your Organization Key, which will be used to associate new nodes with your Organization. (Also sometimes called a validation key).
  • Download a Knife configuration file, which will configure our command line tools for you.

Each of these steps are detailed below. Place all of the files you download in this section in the same directory.

Download Your User Key

Login to the Management Console and navigate to your user profile page:

Follow the link to get a new User Key:

Download your new User Key:

Create an Organization

Login to the Management Console and navigate to the organizations page:

Click on the 'create' sub-tab:

Enter a name for the organization and select a service plan:

Download Your Organization Key and Knife Configuration File

For the organization you would like to manage, download your Organization Key and your Knife Configuration File:

Opscode does not store copies of these keys! Keep them safe!





You now have a Hosted Chef user account and organization! Yea you!
